Southside girls soccer coach Jeremy Davis knows it’s a big week for his Mavericks. Both Mount St. Mary and Little Rock Central boast 3-1 conference records.


Southside plays at MSM today and the team will host Central on Friday at 5.

“Mount St. Mary and Central are both big games for us this week to stay a game behind Cabot in the race for the conference championship,” Davis said. “Both Mount and Central are very talented and should be great matches. We just need to continue to build on the confidence and momentum we built in St. Louis this past weekend.”

Southside finished 1-1 in the St. Louis Tournament, beating Maryland Heights, Mo.,(Pattonville) by a 1-0 score, and losing 2-1 to a very talented Edwardsville, Ill., squad.

“They (Edwardsville) scored the second goal with 10 seconds left in the game,” Davis said. “(But) it was a great weekend in St. Louis. We got to play two great teams with a great soccer atmosphere, and lots of college coaches around. We played very well and hope it carries over into conference play this week.”

Juniors Kelly Carson and Rachel Smith lead the team with nine and eight goals, respectively.

It’s a crucial week for the Mavericks’ boys squad, too. After losing to North Little Rock last Thursday, Southside begins the week 2-2 in the 7A-Central (7-6 overall). Southside travels to unbeaten (4-0) Little Rock Catholic today and returns home Friday to host Central.
