It was another banner day in the shot put ring for Southside’s Hunter Moreton.

The senior won the Springdale Relays with a toss of 49-4, helping the Mavericks finish seventh overall. Har-Ber won the meet with 143 points.


Alma and Northside placed eighth and 11th, respectively.

Also for the Mavericks, Miguel Hernandez was third with a throw of 43-6 1/2. Alma’s Levi Prestridge was seventh.

Moreton was sixth in the discus and Alma’s Mark Brumley was seventh. Also in the field events, the Airedales’ Caleb Worst was fifth in the long jump; Alma’s Eli Howells was seventh in the triple jump; and the Airedales’ Chris Belt placed seventh in the high jump. Howells also placed sixth in the 200 meters.

Southside’s Jeff Johnston was fourth in the 100 meters.

Northside and Alma placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 400 relay.

The group of Tyriq Adams, Jordan Dilworth, Biyron McGrew and Tre Norwood placed third (44.51) for the Grizzlies. Alma’s Worst, Howells, Keagan Fuselier and Cooper McGhee placed fourth (44.86).

Southside’s Johnston, Justin Burks, Mason Gregory and Noah Taylor finished seventh in the 400 relay.


Alma’s 3,200 relay team placed sixth (9:03.72). The group consisted of Joey White, Jake Westfall, Cole Spencer and Kenneth Standley.

The dynamic duo of Martie Shockley and Marta Wolczynska helped the Alma Airedalettes to a respectable sixth place finish (45 points) at the Springdale Relays.

Shockley won the 300 intermediate hurdles with a time of 46.79 and Wolczynska was second (47.27). Wolczynska won the 100 hurdles (16.40), with Shockley placing third (17.13).

Northside’s 400 meter relay team placed fourth (53.97). The group included Najla Andrews, Deairah Mays, Princess Rhoden and Sierre Thompson.

The group of Allie Freeman, Chloe Gilmore, Breanna Williams and Heather Padilla helped Alma to a fourth place finish (11:21.65) in the 3,200 relay.

In the girls triple jump, Alma junior Rae Smith broke her own school record with a leap of 34-5 1/2. She previously set the mark last year with a jump of 33-10.

Smith was fourth in the triple jump and teammate Alyssa Hoyle placed seventh in the long jump. Also in the field events, Southside’s Maddison Morgan was sixth in the discus and Loren Hernandez placed eighth in the shot put.

Greenwood pole vaulter Bailee McCorkle was third (11-4), and Southside’s Lauren Sutherland tied for sixth.
