The Mavericks open the 6A-Central race with back-to-back home games with Conway and Cabot.

Coach Charlie Cooper’s Mavericks are 5-8 overall. The team went 1-2 in last week’s Coca-Cola Classic, beating Pleasant Grove (Texas) and losing to Pulaski Robinson and Northside.

“It’s a game-to-game process,” Cooper said. “You have to take each team and each night serious and know that there are no easy ones.”

Southside is 5-5 in its last 10 games following an 0-3 start to the season.


Conway (9-3) has some good wins on its resume, including wins against Jacksonville, Springdale Har-Ber and West Memphis.

Conway finished 17-11 last season, including 8-6 in the 6A-Central.

The Mavericks were 15-14 and 7-7, respectively, last season.

“Last year, things didn’t start out for us real well,” Cooper said. “We went 2-5 in the first half, and then finished 7-7.”

The Southside girls (0-10) open league play with 13-2 Conway on Friday.
