The Mavericks hope to avoid a repeat of Tuesday’s second-half shooting woes when they visit North Little Rock on Friday.

The Mavericks are in danger of starting 0-3 in conference play for the second year in a row. The Mavericks went 2-5 in the first half of conference last season, before flipping the tide and going 5-2 in the final seven games.

The Charging Wildcats (13-4, 1-1) dropped their first 6A-Central game Tuesday night to Conway (78-71).

The Mavericks (5-10, 0-2) have dropped four straight, playing well in three of them.


But Tuesday’s loss, a 72-42 home loss to one of the top teams in the 6A-Central, the Cabot Panthers, was a tale of two halves.

On one hand, the Mavericks were aggressive and sharp while holding a 31-30 halftime lead.

But the final 16 minutes netted the Mavs just 11 points. The team went 1-of-15 from the field in the fourth quarter.

The Southside Lady Mavericks fell behind 24-0 midway through the second quarter before falling to Cabot on Tuesday, 61-27.

Southside (0-13, 0-2) gets North Little Rock (7-7, 1-1) today.

Recruiting

Southside senior Darin Davenport said he has four upcoming college visits.


The Mavericks’ football standout missed part of his sophomore season and all of his junior campaign with knee injuries. But he played well in 2018, earning all-state for the 6-6 Mavericks.

“It’s been a very fun ride,” Davenport said of the recruiting attention. “I want to thank all of the schools that have recruited me, with my knee injuries, and can’t wait to take my official visits to see where I’m going.”

Davenport has four upcoming recruiting visits to Central Arkansas, Southern Nazarene, Harding and Ouachita Baptist.
