The Mavericks have four games in which to avoid a dubious number.

The team, riding an 11-game losing streak, hopes to break through Tuesday against the first-place Bryant Hornets.

Southside (5-17, 0-10) has played well for a half in most of its 6A-Central games. That was the case last week, too, when they battled defending state champion North Little Rock to within four (37-33) in the first half — before falling in the second half, 86-67.

Senior Taye Gatewood had a career night for the Mavericks, finishing with 28 points. Southside teammate Mykale Franks added 20 points in the setback.
