The Southside Mavericks suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 decision Tuesday, capping an April to forget.

Little Rock Central’s Javii Goins Jr. hit a two-out three-run homer to cap a four-run rally. The Mavericks’ Landen Chaffin was the tough-luck loser.

He retired the first two batters before walking Nikko Masters on a 3-2 pitch. Ty Barrett doubled and Jae Kim reached on an infield hit to cut the lead to 4-2.

Goins Jr. then hit Chaffin’s 1-0 pitch over the center field fence.

Matthew Schilling gave Southside an early 2-0 lead with a double. Breck Burris’ RBI single gave the visitors a 3-0 lead.

Braiden Partin’s sacrifice fly in the sixth extended the lead to 4-1.

The Mavericks (7-19, 2-10) conclude the season Friday against Northside.
