Rogers Heritage has not had an easy start to the season and neither has Fort Smith Southside. Both teams have started the season with 0-2 records and are looking to build momentum against a former conference rival. The matchup at Rogers Heritage is sure to be one where both teams are fighting to put a win in the column.
The War Eagles of Rogers Heritage has had some struggles over the past two weeks. Heritage has faced several different factors in the struggles. Last week against the Russellville Cyclones, the War Eagles had trouble sustaining drives and the turnover bug struck at a bad time. During the first week of the season, Heritage suffered three fumbles and Little Rock Central took advantage of those mistakes in route to a 31-14 victory. The War Eagles want to put the past two weeks in the rearview mirror and start getting ready for conference play.
Fort Smith Southside enters the contest looking to get off the losing skids as well. The Mavericks were pummeled by Springdale Har-Ber 47-0 in the first game of the season. A game in which, the Southside gave up over 300 yards rushing against Har-Ber. The poor start for Southside and not being able to stop the run caused the game to get out of hand rather quickly. Week two did not get any easier for the Mavericks in facing the Greenwood Bulldogs. The performance in week two was much better for Southside, only trailing 21-14 at the half. Greenwood would bust the game in the open in the third quarter with two quick touchdowns the final score would wind up being Greenwood 56-Southside 34.
Fort Smith Southside comes into the game Friday night with a focus on protecting the football and not committing turnovers. Rogers Heritage is approaching the game in the same manner as Southside, with the focus being on limiting mistakes and not turning the ball over. With rain being in the forecast, whichever team can hang on to the football should be able to win this game.
